Two residents of Kharghar have been arrested for cheating around 20 people by promising jobs in Canada.

Pravin Kumar Lalchand (42), a B.Com graduate, had started an office in the name of Ventures Overseas Career Consultant in Vashi around a year and a half ago. He hired Tejas Vishal Tondon (33), a divorcee, and they started cheating people who were hunting for jobs abroad.

Sujata Pandurang Pawar, a teacher from Govandi, was promised a job in Canada for herself and her 12th pass husband. She even paid Rs. 1.37 lakh, but the agency didn’t offer them jobs.

Ms. Pawar approached the Vashi police. “The accused don’t have any tie-up with any companies abroad,” assistant police inspector Deepak Barkale from Vashi police station said.

Mr. Lalchand had taken the shop on rent at Rs. 50,000 per month. “We have recovered Rs. 3.93 lakh from the accused,” Mr. Barkale said.
